Sofia City Tour and Folklore Dinner at Vodenitsata Restaurant

Sofia’s history goes back to ancient times. Archeological finds have disclosed it to be over 8 000 years old. Through the centuries many people have inhabited it and added to its rich and diverse history. The Thracian tribe Serdi settled here in 7-th century BC and gave the first recorded name of Sofia - Serdica. The Byzantines called it Triaditsa and the Slavs - Sredets. The modern city of Sofia was named in 14th century after the basilica St. Sofia. Sofia means wisdom in Greek.

During your city tour you will see St George Rotunda dating back to 4th century, Sveta Nedelya Square where you will get an idea of the old Roman town, St Alexander Nevski Cathedral and its crypt.

Restaurant \\\\\\\'Vodenitsata\\\\\\\' (The water-mill) is the most popular out of town folk restaurant with a live show programme. It is located almost in the heart of the mountain (10 km from the city center), near the Dragalevski chair lift.

Once this place was a water-mill, built of stone and wood. Today the restaurant preserves the architecture of the mill and shows some ethnographic collections of different objects and traditional Bulgarian costumes. Every night this place offers a rare attraction for its guests with an authentic folklore show.
